NewstalgiaMotors.com is proud to offer
this multiple award winning 1957 Chevy Bel Air
that was built by Mitch Kelly and his team from
Kelly & Son Crazy Painters in Bellflower, California.
This spectacular Bell Air show piece, named "Bad to the Blue",
was built for an unveiling at the 2012 SEMA Show and
a one year tour across the country.
Since its debut, it has won a long list of many high ranking awards
such as Goodguys "Builders Choice" in Scottsdale 2013 and
"Custom Rod of The Year" finalist,
"Outstanding Paint" at the 2013 Grand National Roadster Show,
and it was a HUGE hit at the recent 2013 SEMA Show showcasing
in the Danchuck Manufacturing booth.
The car was also recently featured in a spread of HOT ROD Magazine
in their second running of the HOT ROD Flog Test
showcasing the Bel Air's "go power"
as well as its "show power" on the drag strip, road course,
slalom and skidpad.
Absolutely every single thing on this '57 you could imagine to paint
is custom painted; from the wheels, undercarriage, rear end, tranny,
engine, engine bay, the interior,
everything in Mitch's signature Blue Heaven Candy
and Black vibrant hues.
Exterior: The finish on this Bel Air is simply as good as it gets
with its Custom Blue Heaven Candy to Black fade paint
and graphics that are not quite traditional flames or tribal.
$35,000 was spent on the paint alone
garnering the Best Paint award at the 2013 Grand National Roadster Show.
Interior: The Custom Blue Leather interior incorporates buckets
within a bench front and rear seating
along with beautifully sculpted door and side panels.
The dash remains simple withthe stock '57 Chevy triple gauge dash pod
enhanced by Dakota Digital's VHX Series Blue accented Carbon Fiber instrumentation.
A matching Dakota VLK Series Digital Clock module keeps track of speed,
tach, oil PSI, water temp, fuel level, voltage and other data.
A Vintage Air A/C, heat and defrost system keeps track of the comfort level.
A 1000 Watt Kicker Stereo with iPod Connection manages the tunes.
Engine and Driveline:
The gleaming engine compartment features a Custom built firewall
by Hot Rod Dynamics,
Eddie Motorsports polished billet aluminum hood hinges,
hood brace and latch along with a Matson aluminum radiator and condenser.
The engine is a Pace Performance GMPP LS3 6.2L 525HP Crate Engine
upgraded with an aggressive racing-derived ASA camshaft.
This hydraulic roller with .525-inch lift on both the intake
and exhaust sides, along with 226 degrees duration
on the intake side and 236 degrees on the exhaust side
is coupled with a tight, 110-degree lobe separation angle,
helping the engine deliver excellent throttle response at high rpm.
Chevrolet Performance complements this high-performance camshaft
with higher-rate valve springs.
Exhaust is handled by CCP ceramic coated headers and a
Borla ceramic coated exhaust system.
Backing this LS high performance engine is a GM 4L70E Electronically Controlled
4-speed Overdrive transmission connected to a Custom carbon fiber driveshaft.
A Currie 9" Ford differential brings up the rear.
The all new suspension includes CPP front A-arms,
a Custom TCI 4-Link setup in the rear and
fully adjustable QA1 coilover shocks all around.
CPP disc brakes with chrome calipers and
13" cross-drilled and slotted rotors get support from a Hydratech Braking Systems
high performance hydraulic brake assist unit.
A generous 29 gallon CPP aluminum fuel tank is used.
All of this is sitting on a reinforced, smoothed out and painted seamless chassis
directly from the factory in 1957.
Wheels and Tires: Custom made American Racing "Burnout" wheels
18" in front and 20" in rear on Toyo 250/40R18 and 315/35R20 tires
provide the right stance.
Mitch has definitely hit the mark with "Bad to the Blue"
when he set out to build his dream car that shows off amazing talents as a painter
and well-known and trusted personality in the SEMA Show Car circuit.
